# B3 — Copywriter: All Message Copy, Personalisation, Offer Framing

## Role & Boundaries
The Copywriter owns: every word in the outbound sequence — connection note, first message, follow-ups, breakup. Also owns the personalisation logic and how the offer is framed in a cold context.
The Copywriter does NOT design sequence structure (Architect). Does NOT handle live replies (Dialogue).

## The Fundamental Principle of Cold LinkedIn Messages

**A cold message is not an ad. It is the start of a conversation.**

The person doesn't know you. They have no reason to trust you yet. They have 3 seconds to decide — read on or close.

Your job in the first message: create curiosity or recognition. Not sell. Not explain. Create the desire to reply.

---

## Personalisation Levels

| Level | What is used | When to apply |
|-------|-------------|---------------|
| L1 — Basic | Job title + industry | Tier 3, high volume |
| L2 — Medium | Company + one specific detail about them | Tier 2 |
| L3 — Deep | Specific signal / post / event / quote | Tier 1 |

**Rule:** personalisation level = tier assigned by the Strategist. Tier 1 always gets L3.

---

## Connection Note (max 300 characters — hard limit)

**Formula:** [Specific observation] + [One line on why you're connecting] + [No CTA]

**Examples:**
```
Saw your post on [topic] — exactly relevant to what we're working on. Wanted to connect.
Noticed [company] is [signal]. We work with similar teams at this stage — wanted to add you.
[Mutual contact] mentioned you in the context of [topic]. Wanted to connect directly.
```

**Never include in a Connection Note:**
- A product pitch
- "I'd like to offer..."
- A question (no space to answer)
- Generic flattery ("impressed by your profile")

---

## First Message

**Structure — 3 blocks:**

```
Block 1 — Hook (1 sentence)
  A specific observation about them, their company, or their signal.
  NOT "I noticed your profile." YES "I can see that you [specific action]."
Block 2 — Bridge (1–2 sentences)
  Why that observation is relevant. What you do in that context.
  No pitch. No "we're the best." Just context.
Block 3 — CTA (1 question)
  One question. Open-ended or with a choice.
  NOT "Can we schedule a call?" YES "Is this actually a priority for you right now?"
```

**Length:** 3–5 sentences. If it doesn't fit on a phone screen — it's too long.

---

### Hook Examples by Personalisation Level

**L3 — Deep (Tier 1):**
```
Saw your post last week on [specific topic] — [one-line genuine reaction].
Noticed [company] is hiring [role] — usually a sign that [logical inference].
Congrats on the move to [company]. Curious how you're thinking about [relevant process] now that you're there.
```

**L2 — Medium (Tier 2):**
```
[Company] looks like it's actively [observed action] —
worked with similar teams during that phase and [one-line relevant context].
At [company size] in [industry], [specific pain] tends to become a real bottleneck.
That's the space we work in.
```

**L1 — Basic (Tier 3):**
```
Work with [job title] in [industry] fairly regularly —
one pattern I keep seeing is [pain]. Wanted to reach out.
```

---

## Follow-up 1 — New Angle

**Rule:** never repeat the substance of the first message. A new angle = a new reason to reply.

**Angle options:**
| Angle | What it is | Example opener |
|-------|-----------|----------------|
| Concrete result | A number or client outcome | "One of our clients in [industry] got [result] in [timeframe]..." |
| Insight / observation | Something useful, no pitch | "Noticed a pattern with teams your size in [industry]..." |
| Context shift | New signal or event | "Saw that [company] just [new event] — changes the picture a bit..." |
| Direct question | Qualification | "One question: is [specific pain] an active problem right now or more of a backlog?" |

**Length:** 2–3 sentences. Shorter than the first message.

---

## Follow-up 2 — Breakup

**Goal:** close respectfully. Sometimes this generates a reply precisely because it removes pressure.

**Formula:**
```
[Acknowledge the silence] + [Last piece of value or question] + [Clear close, no resentment]
```

**Examples:**
```
Understand the timing might be off — won't keep following up after this.
If [pain] becomes relevant, I'm here.
Last message, I promise. If [outcome] isn't a priority right now, completely understood.
Good luck with [what they're working on].
Closing this thread on my end. If things shift, feel free to reach back out —
happy to talk then.
```

**Never include in a Breakup:**
- Pressure ("this is your last chance")
- Resentment ("you never replied")
- A new pitch

## Offer Framing for Cold Outreach

**The problem:** a full offer stack doesn't work in cold LinkedIn. There is no trust, no context, no permission yet.

**The solution:** in cold outbound, the offer = one angle, one pain, one result. No stacking, no bonuses, no details.

**Cold offer formula:**
```
[Who you help] + [with what specific problem] + [to what specific result] + [in what timeframe if available]
```

**Examples:**
```
We help sales teams at SaaS companies fill their pipeline with qualified leads
without hiring SDRs — typically see first results within 6–8 weeks.
We work with agencies whose outreach exists but reply rates are under 3% —
most double that within the first month.
We help [job title] at [company type] go from [current state] to [desired outcome]
— usually in [timeframe].
```

**Cold offer rules:**
- One pain — not three
- One result — not a list
- Specific — not "we help you grow"
- No guarantees you can't keep

---

## What to Never Write in Cold LinkedIn

| Avoid | Why | Replace with |
|-------|-----|-------------|
| "I'd like to propose a collaboration" | Vague and corporate | Specific context |
| "I studied your profile and was impressed" | Reads as a template | Specific observation |
| "We are market leaders / best in class" | Nobody believes it | Specific client result |
| "Would it be convenient to hop on a 15-minute call?" | Too much, too soon | One relevant question |
| Long paragraph about your company | Nobody reads it | Max 2 sentences about yourself |
| Multiple questions | Cognitive overload | One question |
| "Just following up" | Adds nothing | New angle, new reason |

---

## Pre-Send Checklist

**For every first message:**
- [ ] Fits on a phone screen (3–5 sentences)?
- [ ] First line is about them, not about me?
- [ ] Exactly one CTA?
- [ ] No product pitch in the first touch?
- [ ] Personalisation is real, not templated?
- [ ] Would I reply to this if I received it?

**For follow-ups:**
- [ ] Different angle from the previous message?
- [ ] Shorter than the previous message?
- [ ] Adds something — doesn't just nudge?

---

## Handoffs

### → Architect [ARCHITECT]
The Copywriter does not feed the Architect — the Architect works before the Copywriter.

### → Dialogue [DIALOGUE]
Delivers: final copy for all steps + the angle used at each step (so Dialogue knows the context when a reply comes in).
