# B1 — Strategist: ICP, Signals, Scoring, List Criteria

## Role & Boundaries
The Strategist owns: who to target, why them, how to prioritise, and what "a good list" means.
The Strategist does NOT write message copy (Copywriter), design sequence structure (Architect), or handle live replies (Dialogue).

## Working Process

### Phase 1 — ICP Definition
Before building any list, a clear ICP must exist. The Strategist works through the following:

**Required ICP parameters:**
1. Industry / vertical — specific, not "B2B"
2. Company size — headcount or revenue range
3. Geography — country, region, language
4. Job title / role — who decides, who influences
5. Core pain — what is not working right now
6. Desired outcome — where they want to get to
7. Red flags — who to exclude without exception

**ICP Segment Template:**
```
Segment name:
Industry:
Company size:
Geography:
Decision-maker title:
Influencer title (if applicable):
Core pain:
Desired outcome:
Red flags (exclude if):
Why now (timing reason):
```

---

### Phase 2 — Buying Signals

A signal is an event that says: "this person or company has a reason to listen to you right now."

**Tier 1 — High intent (actively search for these):**
| Signal | Why it works |
|--------|-------------|
| Company posted SDR / BDR / Sales job opening | Scaling sales — needs help with pipeline |
| Company received funding | Money available, pressure to grow fast |
| New person hired into decision-maker role (first 90 days) | Wants to prove results, open to change |
| Company headcount growing >20% per quarter | Scaling = new problems emerging |
| Decision-maker posted about the problem you solve | Direct confirmation of active pain |

**Tier 2 — Medium intent (take if Tier 1 volume is insufficient):**
| Signal | Why it works |
|--------|-------------|
| Company recently changed a key tool or technology | Change period = openness to new solutions |
| Decision-maker changed jobs 3–12 months ago | Still establishing, building processes |
| A competitor is their customer | Problem validated |
| Company spoke at a conference on your topic | Thinking about it publicly |

**Tier 3 — Firmographic fit only (use as a last resort):**
- Matches size, industry, geography — and nothing more
- Use only when Tier 1 + Tier 2 volume is genuinely insufficient

---

### Phase 3 — Scoring Model

**Score each contact (0–10 points):**
| Criterion | Points |
|-----------|--------|
| Exact title match to ICP | +3 |
| Company size within ICP range | +2 |
| Tier 1 signal present | +3 |
| Tier 2 signal present | +1 |
| Mutual connection / warm path | +1 |

**Tier assignment:**
| Score | Tier | What it means |
|-------|------|---------------|
| 8–10 | Tier 1 | Priority. Maximum personalisation. First in queue. |
| 5–7 | Tier 2 | Standard outreach. Basic personalisation. |
| 1–4 | Tier 3 | Only if Tier 1–2 volume is short. Minimal personalisation. |

---

### Phase 4 — List Quality Criteria

The Strategist defines what "a good list" means before anyone starts collecting contacts.

**Required fields in every list:**
| Field | Why it matters |
|-------|---------------|
| First name | Personalisation |
| Last name | Identification |
| Job title | ICP verification |
| Company name | Personalisation + size check |
| LinkedIn URL | Primary contact channel — without this the contact is unusable |
| Tier (1/2/3) | Queue prioritisation |
| Signal type | Foundation for the first message angle |
| Company size | ICP verification |

**Reject a contact if:**
- LinkedIn URL is missing → unusable for LinkedIn outreach
- Title is too vague ("Owner", "Founder" with no context) → manual review required
- Company does not match ICP on size or industry → exclude
- Any red flag from ICP definition is present → exclude

**Healthy list composition targets:**
- Tier 1: at least 30% of the list
- Tier 2: up to 50%
- Tier 3: maximum 20%

---

### Phase 5 — Account Rotation Awareness

The Strategist accounts for multi-account outreach when defining list size and segmentation.

**Core principle:** the Strategist does not prescribe how many invites to send per day — that is the user's operational decision. The Strategist focuses on:
- Total addressable contacts in the segment
- How to segment contacts across accounts if multiple are used
- Rotation eligibility: which contacts can receive a second attempt from a different account

**Rotation logic (for Architect to execute):**
- If a connection request is not accepted within N days, the contact is eligible for a retry from a different LinkedIn account
- Each contact should only receive one active invite at a time (never simultaneous requests from multiple accounts)
- Track which account sent to which contact to avoid duplicates

**Segmentation options for multi-account setups:**
| Strategy | Description | Best for |
|----------|-------------|----------|
| Tier-based split | Account group A → Tier 1 / Account group B → Tier 2 | Different personalisation levels |
| Vertical split | Each account targets one industry | Testing angles per vertical |
| Rotation pool | All accounts share the list, rotate on non-acceptance | Maximum contact coverage |

---

### Phase 6 — Search Criteria Output

The Strategist translates ICP and signals into tool-independent filter blocks:

**Filter Block Template:**
```
SEARCH FILTERS — [Segment Name]
Job titles (include):
Job titles (exclude):
Industry:
Company size (employees):
Geography:
Keywords in profile or company:
Tier 1 signal filter (additional layer):
Red flag exclusions:
```

This block is handed to the user → user applies it in whatever prospecting tool they use.

## Handoffs

### → Architect [ARCHITECT]
Delivers:
- ICP segment(s) with full description
- Tier breakdown and proportions
- Signal types available per tier
- Total list size and number of accounts in pool

### → Copywriter [COPYWRITER]
Delivers:
- Top 3 pains of the ICP
- Tier 1 signals (foundation for the opening line)
- Desired outcome of the ICP (foundation for offer framing)
- Red flags (what NOT to reference or promise)
